Since its inception in 2012, Basha Uhuru has honoured the spirit of the 1976 youth who fought for freedom of choice during the Soweto Uprising. Today, it stands as a bold and unifying platform that celebrates artistic expression and social progress, offering free access to world-class workshops, exhibitions, talks, performances, and more.
What’s Happening at Basha Uhuru 2025?
This year’s theme, “Celebrating the Legacy of Creative Expression,” focuses on the role of youth in shaping South Africa’s creative and social economies. Here’s a glimpse into what you can expect:
25 June: 76/25 Print Art Exhibition
Hosted at the Women’s Jail in collaboration with The Arts Company Soweto and the City of Johannesburg, this bold exhibition features 16 young visual artists showcasing limited-edition prints that explore the dreams and challenges facing South Africa’s youth.
26 June: Learning, Leadership & Creative Power
Afri-MasterClass Conference
A full-day programme with powerful voices including Shakes Mashaba, MEC Lebogang Maile, and Proudly SA’s Eustace Mashimbye. Themes include:
