The 7th edition of the Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival arrives at a pivotal time for South Africa, as the nation navigates complex challenges while striving to uphold its constitutional commitment to social justice and human rights. With global human rights crises on the rise, this year’s festival calls for unity and action under the theme A Just and Inclusive South Africa.
Taking place from March 20-23, 2025, this four-day festival is free and open to the public, with gates opening at 10:00 AM daily. The highlight of the final day, March 23rd, is the renowned 8KM WeThePeople Walk, inviting South Africans to stand in solidarity for human rights.

The Constitution Hill Human Rights Festival is a vibrant space that educates, engages, and inspires through various events and activities:

Children’s Village: Interactive and fun learning experiences for young attendees.
Film Festival: Showcasing impactful human rights-themed films from local and international filmmakers.

1000 Drums for Solidarity: A drumming activation amplifying marginalized voices and fostering unity.
The Sounds of Freedom Music Festival: A powerful open-air concert featuring celebrated artists such as Mandisi Dyantyis, Kedineo, Buhle Mbongwa, and Simmy. Taking place on March 22nd at 6:00 PM, the concert will deliver messages of inclusion and civic activism.
The WeThePeople Walk – March 23, 2025
The 8KM WeThePeople Walk is a symbolic journey through the streets of Johannesburg, honoring the heroes of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre and promoting active citizenship.
Tickets are available on Webtickets for R60 per person, including a free T-shirt for the first 5,000 registered adults.
Children under 17 attend for free.
The Thand’uMzansi campaign activation encourages participants to engage in patriotic activities, such as reading the Constitution’s preamble, raising the flag, and singing the national anthem.
Walkers are encouraged to choose a human right from the Bill of Rights and express their commitment through art, posters, and discussion along the route.
Constitution Hill offers free, safe undercover parking for all attendees.
A Platform for Advocacy and Civic Engagement
The festival will take place at the historic Constitution Hill, using venues such as the Old Fort and Women’s Jail to host a diverse audience, including community-based organizations, social movements, government representatives, and NGOs. Over 50 social justice organizations will participate in the Activism Village, providing valuable resources and engagement opportunities.
