About your host
Dubbed the Minister of Tourism in the Maboneng Precinct, Bheki Dube is the force behind Curiocity Hostels and MainStreetWalks.
On a tented camp full of dust and chaos from the diggings, prominent residents came together, formed a committee to raise funds for the first Library. In 1890 a subscription Library opened its doors with its first books ordered from London and the committee was its first Librarians. Today we call this library the Joburg City Library
Soweto is an urban settlement or ‘township’ in South Africa, southwest of Johannesburg; with a population of approximately 1.3 million.
Soweto became the largest Black city in South Africa, but until 1976 its population could have status only as temporary residents, serving as a workforce for Johannesburg.
